Teddy Goalsevelt, the viral, presidential-looking World Cup fan, was hoping to stay in Brazil a bit longer as the American team moves forward to the Round of 16, and he's getting his wish.
While a spectator at the U.S.- Portugal game in Brazil on Sunday, Mike D’Amico, aka "Teddy Goalsevelt," became an Internet sensation for dressing in the garb similar to what the 26th president of the United States, Teddy Roosevelt, might have worn. He had planned to just stay in Brazil until the U.S. played Germany on Thursday but now his employer, Chicago-based Cavalry, is trying to help him stay longer now that the U.S. has advanced in the FIFA World Cup tournament.

"If fans are willing to help the legend of Teddy Goalsevelt continue by donating, his persona will live on through the knockout stage," the company said in a statement. "We here at Cavalry, the advertising agency where Teddy (Mike D’Amico) works, see him as the team’s mascot now. And we don’t think we’re alone," according to the fundraising page. "Don’t give for us. Give for your country!"
Cavalry is hoping to raise at least $5,000 to help D’Amico stay in Brazil. As of late Thursday morning, the
GoFundMe.com page had raised $5,433 and had been shared more than 1,500,000 times.
“Our battle might be won, but the war's not over!” said a statement on the fundraising page. “Any donations over our target will go to the charity of Teddy Goalsevelt's choosing. Thanks for your support!”
Although the U.S. lost to Germany 0-1 on Thursday, Portugal’s 2-1 win over Ghana allows the U.S. to advance to the tournament’s Round of 16 where the U.S. will play the winner of Group H next Tuesday.
