The booming voice of Terry Crews would be perfect to play the villain Doomfist in the popular online multiplayer game “Overwatch” — at least, Crews himself seems to think so.

“Overwatch” is played by more than 20 million gamers, and its subreddit has over 700,000 subscribers, according to gamer site Polygon, which named it one of the best games of 2016.

One recent thread on reddit expounded about how Terry Crews, the Old Spice/"Expendables"/"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" actor, should voice Doomfist, a character that has been hinted at in the game but has not yet appeared. The thread grew to more than 4,000 comments, including two from Crews himself. “I would LOVE TO PLAY DOOMFIST,” the first comment read, followed by, “I know you just read that in his voice,” Forbes reported.

The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) also commented that he liked the idea of Crews voicing Doomfist.

Crews later visited game maker Blizzard and linked to a news article about the visit on his Facebook page, but no announcement about the creation of a Doomfist character (or Crews voicing it) has been forthcoming from Blizzard yet, Forbes pointed out.

The hoopla over news that may-or-may-not-be is nothing new for “Overwatch” players and fans. Enthusiasm for the game runs so high that each teaser video or animated short released by Blizzard generates impressive amounts of fan art, fan fiction, cosplay, and memes, according to Polygon, which calls the game a “cultural touchstone.”

Twenty million players is an impressive viewing audience. While many movies may be viewed that many times, most television show ratings are below that number, so Crews may be onto something if he can land this gig.
