Tesla Motors' new Model S sports car comes with an "insane mode" button, and a YouTube video showing off people's reactions has become an Internet sensation.
In the video, a giddy Tesla owner is seen via dashboard camera driving friends around a sunny neighborhood, explaining that he's about to press the button. Many, if not most, of the passengers are caught completely off guard when he does, and end up literally dropping their jaws as the car rockets forward.
Forbes reported Thursday that the latest iteration of the Model S was announced last year by company founder Elon Musk, who promised vast performance improvements via a dual-motor system that gives both the front and back set of wheels a combined 691 horsepower and 687 lb-ft of torque.
That means that, whereas the original Model S could go from 0-60 MPH in 5.9 seconds, the new Model S P85D can do it in 3.2 seconds thanks to "insane mode."
Brooks Weisblat of the DragTimes website behind the video is a big fan of the Tesla's acceleration, for both speed and safety reasons.
"It's very safe, the car has all-wheel drive and is very stable the entire time," Weisblat
told Mashable. "We've even done 0-60 in 3.3 seconds in the rain with no tire spin at all."
For those curious about purchasing the new Model S P85D, it retails for $120,000.
