Fox Broadcasting announced on Monday that it has crossed out "The X Factor" from its prime time television lineup after Simon Cowell, the show's driving force, said he would not return to the American version of the program.
Cowell, 54, who will become a father later this year, said he will return to the United Kingdom to remain part of the English version of "The X Factor,"
reported CNN.
"Unfortunately, there is no 'X Factor USA' without Simon Cowell, but we understand and support his decision to focus on the international formats and on the next phase of his personal life," Kevin Reilly, Fox's entertainment chairman, said in a statement. "We wish him the very best, and it's our sincere hope that we work together again soon."

"The X Factor" lasted three seasons in the United States with Cowell serving as producer as well as judge,
according to E! News.
"I've had a fantastic time over the last 12 years, both on 'The X Factor' and 'American Idol,'" Cowell said in a statement. "And apart from being lucky enough to find some amazing talent on the shows, I have always had an incredible welcome from the American public (most of the time!)."
Cowell said on Twitter that he was leaving the American version of the show with "mixed emotions."
Entertainment Weekly reported that "The X Factor" struggled to build a consistent audience among the 18-49 demographic, pulling a disappointing 2.3 rating among the group on Wednesday nights, including a week of DVR playback.
E! News said the revolving door of judges hurt the show as well, with Nicole Scherzinger, Paula Abdul, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, L.A. Reid, Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio all coming and going over the three seasons.
