Tim Tebow is reportedly pursuing a Major League Baseball career and will hold a workout for professional baseball squads this month, his agents Jimmy Sexton and Nick Khan said.
According to ESPN, all 30 MLB teams will be invited to the workout. Tebow, 28, best known as the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback for the University of Florida who had NFL stints with the Denver Broncos, New York Jets, New England Patriots, and Philadelphia Eagles, has not played baseball since high school.
"Obviously we support Tim in his pursuit of a baseball career, as we have in all his ventures," Sexton told ESPN, adding that he is working with CAA baseball agent Brodie Van Wagenen.
"Tim's athletic ability, his work ethic, his leadership and his competitiveness were evident in football and will show in baseball. Knowing Tim's passion and desire, we won't be surprised by anything he accomplishes," Sexton continued.
CAA Sports represents some of the top players in the Major Leagues, including the San Francisco Giants' Buster Posey, the St. Louis Cardinals' Michael Wacha, the Baltimore Orioles Adam Jones, and the Philadelphia Phillies' Ryan Howard.
In 2013, Tom Kotchman, a Boston Red Sox scout from Florida told WEEI-FM that he would have drafted Tebow out of high school when he was working with the Los Angeles Angels, but Tebow never returned his information card.
"He had a strong arm and had a lot of power," Red Sox Florida scout Stephen Hargett, who worked with Kotchman at the Angles, added, according to WEEI-FM.
"If he would have been there his senior year he definitely would have had a good chance to be drafted. He had leverage to his swing. He had some natural loft. He had some good power. He was a good athlete. He had had enough arm for that position. He was a left-handed hitter with strength and some size."
Tebow has told ESPN, who he has worked for as a football analyst, about his intent to pursue a baseball career. Wagenen stressed to ESPN that the Tebow's flirtation with baseball was not "a publicity stunt."
"I have seen Tim's workouts, and people inside and outside the industry – scouts, executives, players and fans – will be impressed by his talent," Wagenen said.
