Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow said on Tuesday that he’s intrigued by the idea of getting into politics.

“I don't know in this time in my life, but if there's a chance you can make a difference some day in something, then that would be intriguing," Tebow told Fox News reporter host Ainsley Earhardt when she asked if he would consider a run for office. The comment came during an interview at the Tim Tebow Foundation’s 2016 Golf Classic.

Tebow, 28, was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles last year. The former Heisman trophy winner played for the Denver Broncos, New York Jets, and New England Patriots during his career.

Known for his evangelical Christian faith, Tebow is an outspoken anti-abortion advocate, MSNBC reported. His mother was reportedly encouraged to have an abortion when she contracted dysentery as missionary in the Philippines while pregnant with him.

In 2013, Huffington Post blogger Steven Kurlander said Tebow should run for office, calling him “the perfect immaculate candidate.”

“The amazing Tebow marketing machine has already established him as the most devout athlete in America, and consequently he already has a devoted following of evangelical Christians who represent a huge voting bloc in Florida,” Kurlander wrote.

Ed Rendell, former Democratic Governor of Pennsylvania, also had a favorable opinion about Tebow’s potential prospects for political office.

“I think he’d be a very attractive candidate. He’s an attractive young man. He’s got a strong values system and he speaks pretty well. He looks like a million dollars. I think he’d be a great candidate,” Rendell said, according to CBS Philly.

Twitter users had mixed reactions to the idea of Tebow in politics.
