Timothee Chalamet plans to donate his entire salary from Woody Allen's upcoming film to charity, stating that he was inspired by the movement in Hollywood in which high profile stars were taking a stand against sexual abuse and gender inequality.
The actor revealed on Instagram that he did not want to profit from his work on the film, "A Rainy Day in New York" and would instead be giving his earnings to Time's UP, the LGBT Center in New York and RAINN, an anti-sexual violence organization, The Wrap reported.
Chalamet's post comes shortly after he evaded a question posed by Christiane Amanpour on CNN in which he was asked if he had any "qualms" about working with Allen, who faces allegations of sexual abuse, The Guardian noted.
"I hesitate to talk about it right now because what I say is only going to anger people," Chalamet answered at the time but in his Instagram post he later said that "contractual obligations" prohibited him from commenting on why he chose to work with Allen on the film.
"I want to be worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the brave artists who are fighting for all people to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve," he said, according to Vanity Fair.
Chalamet's co-star Rebecca Hall made the first move to donate her salary from "A Rainy Day in New York" to Time's Up, inspiring her co-stars Chalamet and Griffin Newman to follow suit and give their earnings to charity, according to The Wrap.
Allen was accused of sexual assault by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow in an open letter published in The New York Times in 2014, detailing how the award-winning moviemaker allegedly sexually assaulted her over several years.
Allen has denied the allegations.
