In his weekly appearance on a Boston radio show, Tom Brady talked about his friendship with President Donald Trump after the hosts asked questions about Trump's comments on Brady's support.

During Monday's "Kirk and Callahan Show" on WEEI, Gerry Callahan asked Brady about his friendship with Trump and whether he had called Trump to congratulate him prior to the inauguration, as Trump claimed.

The New England Patriots quarterback said he and Trump have a friendship spanning at least 16 years, adding, “He’s been very supportive of me for a long time. It’s just a friendship. I have lots of friends. I call a lot of people.”

Saying he didn’t understand why it was such a big deal that he is friends with the new president, Brady made it clear that being friends with someone “doesn’t mean you agree with everything they say or do,” adding that it is a personal friendship, not a political one, that he has with Trump.

Brady then went on to say that he tries to be positive and not bring distractions to his team.

“I don’t like negativity. I don’t like a lot of confrontation. Those things don’t make me feel very good. I wouldn’t be a good talk show host,” Brady said in the WEEI interview.

“I just don’t want to be a distraction for our team,” Brady concluded. ‘There are two many guys that are working hard in one direction to help us win games to help us get to the point where we are now.”
