A Tom Cruise injury has resulted from the star attempting his own stunts as he films "Mission: Impossible 6" in London.
The 55-year-old actor was filming a stunt scene in London on Sunday when things went awry.
In a video released by TMZ, Cruise can be seen jumping from a scaffolding rig on top of one building. He was aiming for the rooftop of the opposite building, but fell short, slamming into the side of the building instead.
According to the Daily Mail, Cruise hoisted himself back up after the fall and tried to continue, albeit with a limp. It was only when he got next to the camera that he fell to his knees. The video shows a visibly uncomfortable Cruise limping back to the ledge before being pulled safely back to the scaffolding and led off camera.
There’s no news on the extent of his injuries yet, but on-set bumps and bruises are nothing new for Cruise, who is known for insisting on performing his own stunts.
He famously scaled the side of the world's tallest building for "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol" and, in 2015, he hung off the side of an A400 plane while filming a stunt for "Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation."
“I told them, ‘Don’t stop filming,’” Cruise told an audience during an appearance at CinemaCon leading up to the film's release. “I was hit by a tiny particle from the runway and I literally thought it broke my ribs,” he said at the time, according to People.
In an interview with Variety at the time, stunt expert Wade Eastman explained that Cruise doesn’t like taking short cuts.
“He feels that it takes away from the character and the acting," he said.
Fans will have a lot more of these death-defying feats to look forward to when "Mission: Impossible 6," which also stars Henry Cavill, Alec Baldwin, and Angela Bassett, is released in July 2018.
Much of the film’s details are still under wraps, but Skydance Media CEO David Ellison told Collider earlier this year that the film will see Cruise pulling off his most daring stunt sequences yet.
"What Tom is doing in this movie I believe will top anything that’s come before. It is absolutely unbelievable," Ellison said. "He’s been training for a year. It is going to be, I believe, the most impressive and unbelievable thing that Tom Cruise has done in a movie, and he has been working on it since right after Rogue Nation came out. It’s gonna be mind-blowing.”
