Tom Cruise may be leaving the Church of Scientology for the sake of his 9-year-old daughter Suri, according to rumors and several sketchy news reports citing Star magazine.
There was no word from Cruise on the reports. Although Cruise and ex-wife Katie Holmes chose not to raise Suri in the church, and his three marriages have caused rifts in his relationship with the church, Cruises’ speculated departure from the denomination seems surprising because of his devotion in the past.
In 2008 Cruise released a video of him explaining his faith to his fans. In the course of the footage, Cruise describes himself as a devout scientologist and asserts that Scientology “is something you have to earn,”

According to one report, Suri Cruise was talking to her father about her ballet classes when, Cruz said, he realized he had never seen her perform because of his church duties.
“She was going on and on about her ballet class and how much she loves it. That’s when Tom realized he’s never seen her perform ballet and he started to tear up,”
said a source cited by Hollywood Life. “It hit him that she’s growing up before his eyes and he’s not there to witness most of it. They talk on the phone and video chat, but it’s not the same.”
“Tom has been under tremendous pressure where Suri and Katie are concerned because the church doesn’t want him close to them. They can’t stand that their own poster boy isn’t raising his child in the church,” said the Hollywood Life source.
According to the insider, Suri is becoming increasingly cognizant of her father’s absence in her life: “Tom has missed birthdays, school events, all the special parts of childhood that happen so fast and are gone before you know it. Suri is not a baby anymore; she is fully aware that her father isn’t around much.”
