Tom Cruise 'Star Wars' Cameo Debunked: Rep Says Rumors Are 'Pure Fiction'

Tom Cruise will not be making a cameo appearance in "Star Wars: Episode VII," the actor's representative told ET Canada this week after a British tabloid claimed that the actor would be on board.

According to The Sun via ET Canada, Cruise allegedly sat down with "Star Wars" director J.J. Abrams in London recently where the topic was broached.

"On Saturday evening, five of them met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel," The Sun reportedly claimed. "J.J. produced 'M:I5' and loves working with Tom whenever he gets the chance. Losing Harrison is going to set things back a little scheduling wise and there’s some time to play around with."

ET Canada wrote, though, that a Cruise spokesperson has called The Sun's story "pure fiction."

Abrams' "Star Wars" cast is experiencing some down time while Ford recovers from a leg injury he suffered while shooting scenes as Han Solo. First reported as a broken ankle, Ford's publicist Ina Treciokas told BBC News last week that the actor actually needed an operation on a broken leg.

"His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly," Treciokas said in a statement, according to BBC News. "He's doing well and looks forward to returning to work."

The movie is still scheduled to premiere Dec. 15, 2015. It will pair much of the original "Star Wars" cast with newcomers.

The news of Cruise possibly entering the "Star Wars" universe, though, did set off a flurry of comments on social media.
