Police fired on a car that crashed through barricades set up for the Tour de France on Sunday morning, and now two Parisian suspects have turned themselves in after they initially abandoned the car and fled the scene.
The Associated Press reported that the driver was a 17-year-old boy that didn’t have a license — who turned himself in with one other suspect not identified. The 17-year-old reported that a woman was also injured in the crash.
One of the car's occupants was reportedly hospitalized after the crash.
The BBC reported it was the young woman who sustained bullet wounds during the incident. Her life was not in danger, sources said.
Paris has been vigilant for possible terrorist attacks after the deadly January shootings at the Charlie Hebdo magazine offices, however officials said shortly after the incident they didn't believe it was an act of terrorism. They said it was more likely a joyride by a few people having too good of a time the night before.
The occupants of the car initially fled the scene after crashing the barricades under a hail of gunfire, with the vehicle found shortly after the crash near the Place de la Concorde.
The Tour de France event was scheduled for the afternoon, and went off without a hitch. The riders arrived safely to cheering crowds.
