Madonna’s music has been banned by a Texas radio station because of the f-bombed speech about blowing up the White House she gave last weekend at the Women’s March in Washington.
Texarkana classic hits radio station HITS 105 said taking Madonna’s songs off its playlist was “a matter of patriotism,” reported Deadline, referring to her speech as “un-American.”
“Banning all Madonna songs at HITS 105 is not a matter of politics, it’s a matter of patriotism,” said General Manager Terry Thomas on the station’s Facebook page. “It just feels wrong to us to be playing Madonna songs and paying her royalties when the artist has shown un-American sentiments. If all stations playing Madonna took their lead from us, that would send a powerful economic message to Madonna.”
During her expletive-filled speech, Madonna told the crowd that she had given thought to “blowing up the White House,” according to Vulture.
“Yes, I’m angry. Yes, I am outraged. Yes, I have thought an awful lot of blowing up the White House, but I know that this won’t change anything,” she said, per Elle.
HITS 105 said those sentiments that made it impossible to continue to support the singer and songwriter who gained her popularity from testing the boundaries in the lyrics of her music.
“Welcome to the revolution of love. To the rebellion. To our refusal as women to accept this new age of tyranny,” Madonna said on Saturday before the march, per Elle. “Where not just women are in danger but all marginalized people. Where people uniquely different might be considered a crime. It took us this darkness to wake us the f*** up.”
CNN was broadcasting Madonna’s speech live as she started using profanity.
“And to our detractors that insist that this march will never add up to anything, f*** you. f*** you,” she said. “It is the beginning of much needed change. Change that will require sacrifice, people. Change that will require many of us to make different choices in our lives, but this is the hallmark of revolution.”
