The United States believes it has correctly identified the ISIS executioner who killed journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff as well as a British worker, FBI Director James Comey said Thursday.

Comey didn’t release the identity of the masked man, who spoke with a British accent, but told reporters gathered at the FBI headquarters in Washington that they also are attempting to ID two men in the videos, who seemed to be Canadian or American, NBC News said.

Advanced recognition software has been used by the U.S. and British government to put together clues as to the executioner’s identity; ABC News showed how the software works.

Other experts are searching every viable source to identify the topography of the desert location in the videos.

NBC quoted Comey as saying the FBI is considering that ISIS is “looking to try to do something in the U.S.” but he thought the terrorist group couldn’t pull off a difficult or complex attack.

During the question-and-answer session, Comey also discussed the al-Qaida connected Khorasan terror group, which the U.S. targeted in Syrian airstrikes this week.

"That group was at the top of my list of things that I worry about ... [because] it is a collection of very bad and experienced terrorists, operating in a safe haven, into which we don't have complete visibility," Comey said, according to ABC.

“We don’t have complete visibility about their activities. We believe they’ve been working toward an attack, but it’s hard to say whether it would come tomorrow, in three weeks, or in three months.

“Intelligence reports indicated that the Khorasan group was in the final stages of plans to execute major attacks against western targets and potentially the U.S. homeland,” Comey said in a video posted on NBC.
