Valerie Bertinelli paid tribute to her former "One Day at a Time" co-star Pat Harrington this week after learning that the 86-year-old died on Wednesday, posting a sweet image and writing that "he always made me laugh."
Bertinelli, who played the young Barbara Cooper on the series, made her comments on Instagram Thursday. Harrington drew a lot of laughs starring as apartment superintendent Dwayne Schneider on the CBS series, which ran from
1975 to 1984, according to USA Today.
"One Day at a Time" co-creator Norman Lear pointed out that Harrington died on Bonnie Franklin's birthday, the actress who played divorced mother Ann Romano.
Harrington's daughter Tresa remembered her
father with a Facebook message Wednesday night.
"Dear Friends, it is with the most unimaginable pain and sadness, that I tell you my father, Pat Harrington, Jr. passed away at 11:09 PM this evening," she wrote. "We were all with him today and tonight: crying, laughing and loving him. This is the single most heartwrenching and physically painful thing, I've ever had to endure."
"My heart is broken to pieces and I will cry and cry until I just won't. Love to you all! And as we head into this year, never be afraid to tell the people you love, that you love them," she continued.
Phil Brock, Harrington's agent with Studio Talent Group, said in a statement that his client was "a gracious man" who knew
how to make people laugh, CNN reported.
"Pat had the ability to bring laughter and kindness to any role," Brock said. "The twinkle in his Irish eyes let you know that you were in on the joke. His was an extraordinarily impactful long lasting career."
