The movie is based on author Ronda Rich’s bestselling novel. Harper will play the role of bed-and-breakfast owner Charlotte. The plot involves townsfolk in the fictional village of Bliss setting up a successful Southern author, played by Lauren Holly, with their widowed mayor, played by Cameron Bancroft, who is a single father of two.
The film is being produced by Odyssey Media and will air on the UP cable network.
UP described the movie as an uplifting romance and said on Wednesday that it
welcomed the “inspirational” Harper as part of the project, according to The Associated Press.
The movie is set to air in January.
Harper began her career as a chorus girl on Broadway, and later went on to appear in several Broadway shows, including productions starring Lucille Ball and Jackie Gleason. She had several television roles over the years, but gained stardom after taking the role of Rhoda Morgenstern on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in 1970. From 1974 to 1978, she starred in her own sitcom spinoff, "Rhoda."
Harper was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009 and a rare form of brain cancer in March. She said
doctors gave her as little as three months to live.
