Vanity Fair's covers of "Star War" characters from the coming movie "The Last Jedi," will surely allow the force to flow among the movie franchise's followers when they debut this week.

The late Carrie Fisher appears solo on one of the four covers celebrating the 40th anniversary of "Star Wars." This is the first time Vanity Fair has released alternate covers of the franchise, which the magazine has documented since famed photographer Annie Leibovitz first snapped shots of "The Phantom Menace" cast in 1999.

Leibovitz shot the cast in character in England and Ireland a year ago, seven months before Fisher's death, E! News noted.

"Our reveal of the latest 'Star Wars' film is too big for just one cover," Vanity Fair said on its website rolling out the four alternative covers.

Vanity Fair wrote that the covers will be available online Wednesday, on newsstands in New York and Los Angeles on May 31 and around the country on June 6. The covers will accompany the digital edition of the magazine with a story on the making of the new film by David Kamp on May 24, noted Vanity Fair.

Vanity Fair teased the new covers online.

The "Dark Side" cover features Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma; Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux; and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren. The "Resistance" cover includes Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, John Boyega, as Finn; newcomer Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico and droid BB-8.

"The Force Awakens" heroine Daisy Ridley as Rey and Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker appear together on another cover.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is scheduled to reach American theaters on Dec. 15. Fans quickly shared their feelings about the covers on social media.
