A waitress received a written "LOL" as a tip recently, apparently as punishment for a backed-up kitchen at a popular New Jersey restaurant, and now her reaction has been seen by thousands on social media.
Jess Jones, 20, a Rutgers University student and waitress at D'Jais Bar & Grill in Belmar, New Jersey, admitted while the kitchen was behind on Aug. 17, causing the table of eight she was serving to wait an hour to receive their food, she tried her best to keep them informed and their drinks flowing until the meal arrived,
according to the Ashbury Park Press.
When it came time to pay the $112.03 bill, the person paying wrote "LOL" in the place for the tip, adding "1 hour for food."
Jones initially complained about the treatment on her
Facebook page with a photo of the receipt.
"Last night, I was stunned by this receipt that was left for me by a party of eight people," wrote Jones. "I would have preferred a '$0' tip than a 'LOL' tip, but as a waitress, bad tips and harsh notes are all part of the job.
"Even though they did wait an hour to eat, they remained satisfied with filled drinks and proper notice that the kitchen was a bit busier than normal. I've worked in the service industry for five years and I take pride in providing great service to my customers," said Jones.
Jones note struck a chord on social media, with her post being shared more than 8,400 times since she posted it. Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty responded with his own Facebook post supporting Jones last Friday.
Jones "LOL" tip story remained one of the top trending story on Facebook on Tuesday as others on social media weighed in.
