Fans of “The Walking Dead” can look forward to a spinoff of AMC’s popular zombie apocalypse show, with the companion series expected out in 2015, Entertainment Weekly reported.

“After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe,” said Executive Producer Robert Kirkman, who created the comic book series the show is based on, on the show's blog. “The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”

AMC President and General Manager Charlie Collier called “The Walking Dead” the most popular show on TV for the 18- to 49-year-old crowd.

Season 3 of the show “out-delivered” everything on TV, the network release said, including “The Big Bang Theory,” “The Voice,” “Modern Family,” and almost doubled viewership of “The Bible” for that age group.

Although AMC doesn’t give away a plot or even title for the new show, Collier said it will have an “entirely new story and cast of characters.”

“It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse,” he said.

The news of a spinoff was greeted online with enthusiasm.

Some, though, were concerned about the show’s future.

“The Walking Dead” returns to air on Oct. 13.
