Reports that Harvey Weinstein was heading to a European rehab center for sex addiction evolved after a source told People magazine that the embattled Hollywood producer checked into a luxury resort in Arizona.
A source said Weinstein checked into a five-star hotel after jetting out of Los Angeles on Wednesday, People reported.
"He doesn’t want to go a place where he can’t use his cell phone," the source told People, while another source said Weinstein’s team had "set him up at a secure place to get him the help he needs — he knows and wants help."
The news comes after TMZ reported Weinstein was en route to a rehab center in Europe to receive treatment for sex addiction.
He is embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal that sees him facing numerous allegations of both harassment and assault.
He was forced out of his own company after The New York Times published an expose detailing many Hollywood stars he allegedly harassed, propositioned, or assaulted.
Earlier this week sources told TMZ that Weinstein believed he could receive help and "come back with fresh, new ideas."
People magazine noted that the 65-year-old was spotted boarding a private jet on Wednesday from the Van Nuys airport in California and was to enter a residential treatment facility.
TMZ reported that Weinstein was seen dining at Uncle Sal's restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Thursday evening before he was expected to check into a nearby rehab facility.
