When the controversial Westboro Baptist Church picketed country star Vince Gill's Kansas City concert on Sunday, they probably didn't expect Gill himself to face off against them.
But that's exactly what they got when Gill confronted the protesters at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts after they hassled him about having been divorced and remarried, which Westboro reportedly views as adultery.
Gill divorced singer Janis Oliver in 1998 and has been married to singer/songwriter Amy Grant for the past 13 years. Grant was previously married to Christian singer Gary Chapman.

In the video, when a Westboro woman asked Gill why he was approaching picketers, he responded, "I just came to see what hate looked like."
The woman asked Gill why he was with "another man's wife," referring to Grant.
As the discussion between Gill and the protesters continued, the country singer asked: "Are any of you guys Phelpses? Or are you guys like the 'C' team?"
He was referring to Westboro Baptist founder Fred Phelps, whose
family makes up most of the small congregation of the church, according to USA Today.
Westboro Baptist made headlines in the late '90s for picketing the funerals of military soldiers who died in war. The church is also known for its strident anti-gay views.
Gill, who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007, has sold more than 26 million albums over his career. He has won 18 Country Music Association Awards, including Entertainer of the Year in 1993 and 1994.
He is tied with George Strait for having won the most CMA Male Vocalist Awards (five), and is currently second only to Brooks and Dunn for accumulating the most CMA Awards in history.
Gill is a member of the Grand Ole Opry, and has received 20 Grammy Awards, the most of any male country artist.
