After finding $36,000 in a bag on a Florida golf course earlier this week a woman working there turned in the money to police who discovered it belonged to 76-year-old man living in a nearby assisted-living facility and suffering from dementia.

Rachel Castillo, who works on the Miami Beach Golf Course serving drinks, said she was told by some golfers about the bag in which she found the senior citizen's ID and "stacks of money."

"Easy money is not good money, you know?" said Castillo when asked by a reporter if she considered pocketing the money.

Castillo told WSVN Miami 7 News that she was only following her Christian values instilled in her as a child. She said her reward will come from a higher power later in life.

"I believe in the Bible," she said. "I'm a Christian, and the Bible says, 'Do not steal, do not lie,' you know, all these things, and if you do what's right, if you live the right way, you'll be taken care of. I believe I'll be taken care of."

Miami Beach Police Sgt. Bobby Hernandez commended Castillo for her integrity.

"$36,000 is what a lot of people make a year," he said, noting that the cash definitely belonged to the man.

"He is in an assisted living facility right now. He might have a medical condition. That's undetermined," Hernandez told WSVN. "We are in touch with the family members getting more information, but we have identified that money as his through different transactions that he made."

According to Castillo, the $36,000 was basically equivalent to her annual salary.

If the money had not been claimed within 90 days, Castillo could have legally kept it, according to The Associated Press.
