WWE is eyeing Serena Williams as its next female star to join the likes of Ronda Rousey in leading a revolution in women's wrestling, which was celebrated Sunday in a first-ever all-female WWE Evolution pay-per-view in Uniondale, New York.

Stephanie McMahon, daughter of WWE owner Vince McMahon, said she wanted the 37-year-old tennis star to join the company's roster.

"Serena! I want Serena. She's awesome," Stephanie McMahon said at WWE's New York office, according to The Sun.

While the prospect remains in the far-off future, it is understandable why WWE has set its sights on Williams.

The tennis-ace set off her own revolution on the court amid the U.S. Open controversy last month, which saw Williams accuse umpire Carlos Ramos of sexism and racism after he handed her three code violations that totaled $17,000 in fines.

At a news conference following the game, Williams accused Ramos of sexism – a comment that gained the support of the Women's Tennis Association and the U.S. Tennis Association.

"I'm here fighting for women's rights and for women's equality and for all kinds of stuff," she said, according to CNN. "He's never taken a game from a man."

Her feistiness and outspoken attitude appears to be what WWE is looking for in its female leads, as was demonstrated in Rousey's successful few months.

The MMA-turned-pro-wrestling star was a smash hit with fans following her wrestling debut earlier this year.

Since then she has been "suspended" after her "attack" on her WWE mentor with a briefcase, won her first ever WWE title and wowed fans when she dropped SummerSlam opponent Alexa Bliss on her neck, Business Insider U.K. reported.

Rousey is a trailblazer in women's wrestling, so it was only apt that she joined 21 other females to take part in the historical Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum show in New York over the weekend.
