Media Watchdog: ABC News Wins Ratings With 'Junk'

Thursday, 02 October 2014 03:16 PM EDT ET

ABC News too often ignores confrontations its reporters have with White House officials, but lavishes time on fluffy celebrity stories, says Tim Graham, executive editor of the media watchdog NewsBusters and director of media analysis at the Media Research Center.

"You have to wonder at this point why ABC employs a White House correspondent. When he comes out, he's going to challenge the press secretary in a very precise, factual way. Then, ABC will say they've got to spare 21 minutes for the George Clooney wedding," Graham said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"That's what you get instead. ABC is where you tune in these days to say, 'I want to see a video of a crocodile scaring a dog.' … ABC News these days is winning the ratings race by just going to junk."
