The Rev Al Sharpton drew lightning on Wednesday when he tweeted out a question asking whether his followers believe the deadly storms in Texas represent God's wrath or whether they are related to "climate control."
The question was posed in advance of his radio show where he discussed the topic, but Twitter was quick to mock the civil rights leader, who also hosts a television show on MSNBC.
At least 15 have died
in the flooding.
The Pat Robertson reference alludes to the conservative Christian broadcasters' occasional reference to natural disasters being related to God's wrath. In 2010, he said a blizzard in the Northeast United States was send "to punish Americans who were planning to drive to do something gay."
Robertson has been mocked in the left and mainstream media for such pronouncements.
Most of the mocking of Sharpton seemed to come from the right.
Twitchy begged MSNBC for a televised debate between Bill Nye the Science Guy and Sharpton "on the climate control vs. God controversy."
The Austin-American Statesman newspaper, which is in the heart of the flood area, said it attempted to call the number on the tweet for a comment, but got not answer.
