Kentucky Democratic Senate candidate
Alison Lundergan Grimes' favorite Thanksgiving recipes, posted on her website,
appear to be lifted from other posts, The Hill reported Wednesday.
One, for cranberry-pineapple salad, is a nearly exact copy of a Kraft recipe for "Festive Cranberry-Pineapple Salad" from a 2006
Motley Recipe Book blog, The Hill reported.
Another, for sweet potato casserole, also tracks closely a sweet potato casserole recipe posted on
Ohio's Hartzler Family Dairy website, The Hill reported.
Both recipes, with various modifications, can be found on the Internet, The Hill noted.
They were posted to Lundergan
Grimes' Facebook page Wednesday with a note describing them as some of her "family's favorite Thanksgiving recipes."
"There
's nothing quite like the smell of a good meal around the holidays, so I'm excited to share with you a couple of our family's favorite Thanksgiving recipes. I hope you'll try them out and let us know what you think!" she wrote.
The candidate has made her family, and particularly her grandmother, a central focus in
her campaign against Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
Charly Norton, a spokeswoman for Lundergan Grimes' campaign, said the recipes were made for the family by the candidate's grandmother Elsie — a surrogate for the candidate who often appears on the campaign trail with her.
"Elsie has been making those for her family for years, so Alison thought it would be nice to share them on her Facebook," Norton told The Hill.
Republican Sen. John McCain was caught in a similar flap during his 2008 campaign for president, when he passed off others' recipes as wife Cindy's favorite family recipes.
