Good news for hopeful Americans, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who talked of needing to accept "a new normal" and never shaking hands or high-fiving again, now believes normalcy is possible sometime in the future after the coronavirus pandemic.
The bad news is "real normality" will have to wait "a year or so," Fauci told the U.K.'s The Telegraph on Sunday.
"I would hope to get to some degree of real normality within a year or so, but I don't think it's this winter or fall," Fauci told the paper, per Business Insider. "We'll be seeing it for a bit more."
There are a number of factors for the rise in the number of coronavirus cases in some states, particularly those that had successfully mitigated the virus before, including a wide increase in testing.
Also, Fauci told the Telegraph, mass gathering at protests are concerning for spreading COVID-19 as some states have curves bending back up.
"I'm concerned it's happening," he told the paper. "I hope the individual states can blunt that. It [the virus] could go on for a couple of cycles, coming back and forth."
