Barbara Walters has signed up for her first interview less than a month since she ended her storied career after five decades in television.

While traveling in Berlin, Germany, with New York Post gossip columnist Cindy Adams, she received a call from an ABC executive asking if she would be available to interview film director Peter Rodger, father of mass killer Elliot Rodger, Media Bistro reports.

The 22-year-old, who had been treated for mental illness for years, killed six people near a California college campus last month. He posted a YouTube video and written manifesto just before the killings that said he was unhappy with life because women had rejected his sexual advances.

ABC had announced that Walters, former host of "The View," would continue to conduct major interviews and do projects for the network on an occasional basis.

Her interview with Rodger will take place in California in the coming weeks and air as a special edition of "20/20," while focusing on the mental health issues related to the tragedy.

Walters will be given a Lifetime Achievement Award on Tuesday at Quinnipiac University’s annual Fred Friendly First Amendment Award luncheon.
