Andrew Dossi, one of the two New York City police officers injured
in a shootout in the Bronx Monday night, didn't appreciate a hospital visit from Mayor Bill de Blasio, Dossi's father, Joseph Dossi, told
the New York Post on Tuesday.
"He wasn’t too happy about the mayor’s visit," the elder Dossi said.
His son "deals with some crappy people every day and getting no support (from the mayor), come on," Joseph Dossi told the Post. "These are the guys in the trenches dealing with anything and everything."
Police have shown their anger by turning their backs on de Blasio at the recent funerals of officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, who were gunned down on the job just before Christmas. Police union leaders have said de Blasio has "blood on his hands" for what they termed anti-police rhetoric.
Appearing on
"CNN Tonight," Joseph Dossi made no mention of his son being visited by de Blasio, and said that his son attended both funerals for the slain officers. When asked, he said he doesn't believe his son turned his back on de Blasio at either funeral.
