Judge Brett Kavanaugh has the lowest support for a Supreme Court pick in 31 years, a new poll finds.
Key results in the CNN survey:
- 37 percent of U.S. adults said the Senate should confirm Kavanaugh to the nation's highest court, the lowest mark for a Supreme Court nominee since Robert Bork (31 percent) in 1987.
- 33 percent have a generally positive view of Kavanaugh, while 29 percent have a generally negative view of him. 27 percent have a neutral outlook of the U.S. Court of Appeals judge for the District of Columbia Circuit.
- 74 percent of Republicans, 38 percent of Independents, and 12 percent of Democrats want to see Kavanaugh confirmed.
- 47 percent of men and 28 percent of women said the Senate should confirm Kavanaugh.
Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings with the Senate Judiciary Committee are slated to begin Sept. 4. No Democrats have pledged their support, although three red-state Democrats have met with Kavanaugh in their offices and said they will wait until after his hearings to decide whether he will get their vote.
