Four Broward County Sheriff's deputies did not enter the building at Marjory Stoneman High School in Parkland, Florida, while the students, faculty and administrators were inside under fire from a gunman last week, CNN reported Friday.

Police officers from Coral Springs arrived in the midst of the attack and expressed surprise that the school's armed resource officer, a sheriff's deputy, had not entered the building. Three other sheriff's deputies were also outside standing behind their vehicles with their pistols drawn, sources told CNN.

Coral Springs Police entered the building and new Broward County Sheriff's deputies arrived. Two of the new deputies went in the building, as well as an officer from Sunrise, Florida, sources said.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office is investigating the latest reports, according to an ABC News report Saturday.

"If there is no wrongdoing in the part of our deputies, we'll move on," Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told ABC News. "If there is wrongdoing on the part of our deputies, we'll handle it accordingly as I have for 5 years as sheriff."

It was reported on Thursday Broward County Sheriff's Deputy Scot Peterson, the school's armed resource officer, remained outside during the shooting, the Washington Examiner reported.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel on Thursday announced at a news conference that video of Peterson showed he remained outside before and during the shooting.

"What I saw was a deputy arrive ... take up a position and he never went in," Israel said, adding Peterson should have "went in. Addressed the killer. Killed the killer."

Peterson was initially suspended without pay and later resigned.

Seventeen people died and approximately a dozen others injured in the attack. Nikolas Cruz, the 19-year-old suspect in the shooting, is in custody and faces 17 counts of premeditated murder.
