Jeb Bush and his wife, Columba, have donated $10,000 to a fund to aid the families of the two New York City police officers killed by a gunman on Dec. 20, Politico reports.

The donation was made Tuesday night, Catherine Christman, a spokeswoman for the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, told Politico.

Christmas said there was "no fanfare, no nothing." A Bush aide confirmed the to Politico that the Bushes made the gift.

The group is trying to raise $800,000 to pay off the mortgages on the homes of officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu. The two were shot to death by a man who claimed on social media he was avenging the death of Eric Garner, who died during an arrest in Staten Island.

Their killings have raised tensions between police and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, whom police unions accuse of stoking the fires of anti-police sentiment in the wake of a grand jury decision not to indict NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo in Garner's death.

Politico notes that Bush has not commented on the shootings, but has been critical of de Blasio, who took office one year ago after a campaign that included promises to end stop-and-frisk among other liberal causes.
