West Virginia Coal Association senior vice president Chris Hamilton said Tuesday that "divine intervention," not Russia, got Donald Trump elected president.
"It wasn't Russia that interfered in our election process, it was divine intervention. Thank the Lord he guided these people in this country, the greatest country in the world, to elect Donald Trump," Hamilton said during an Environmental Protection Agency hearing, according to Earth 3 R senior reporter Brian L. Kahn.
Hamilton spoke at the only hearing planned to discuss the EPA's proposal to repeal the Clean Power Plan, which required cuts to power plants' carbon dioxide emissions, according to The Daily Caller.
The coal industry supported Trump in the presidential election, The Daily Caller reported.
Murray Energy CEO Bob Murray said at the hearing that if the Clean Power Plan was not repealed, cost increases for utilities and American consumers would result, according to Reuters.
