Sen. Susan Collins Sunday blasted Democrats after their vote Sunday to block a coronavirus response bill after Republicans failed to get the two-thirds majority that was needed for the bill to move forward.
“This is irresponsible and unwise,” the Maine Republican said, reports The New York Times. "They are playing with fire.”
The shell bill, which was to have served as a placeholder for a final bill, netted a 47-47 vote, after Democrats said that the measure did not provide enough funding for hospitals and Americans who have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, but instead focused on helping corporations.
Negotiations are reportedly continuing on a revised bill, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY said he believes an agreement can still be reached within 24 hours.
