Columba Bush, the very private wife of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, is becoming increasingly more public, even though her husband has yet to officially announce his candidacy for president.

On Friday, Mrs. Bush launched her first Twitter and Instagram accounts, and on Tuesday she wrote an opinion piece in the Des Moines Register about preventing domestic-violence, USA Today is reporting.

"For the past 15 years, I have worked in partnership with the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence to raise awareness regarding the impact of domestic violence in our families while increasing private resources for life-saving services for victims and their children, who often flee their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs," Mrs. Bush wrote.

"In Florida, I learned that our domestic violence centers are at the heart and soul of preventing domestic violence," she explained. "And Iowa is no different, because domestic violence shelters here provided emergency shelter services to 3,336 survivors of domestic violence."

Domestic-violence prevention, and Iowa were also the topics of her first tweets, including one in Spanish.

Mrs. Bush is also the founding board member of the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence Foundation.

The former first lady of Florida is a Mexican native, which could help with her appeal to the Hispanic community.

If her husband is elected president, Mrs. Bush would be the first Latina first lady, and the second first lady not born in the United States. The first was Louisa Adams, the wife of President John Quincy Adams, who was born in England.
