Congress is using a faulty COVID-19 test to screen lawmakers, reports Politico.

The test, made by Curative, can have “false negative results,” the Food and Drug Administration said Monday.

“Risks to a patient of a false negative result include: delayed or lack of supportive treatment, lack of monitoring of infected individuals and their household or other close contacts for symptoms resulting in increased risk of spread of COVID-19 within the community, or other unintended adverse events,” the FDA wrote in a release.

The notice urged healthcare providers to consider having their patients get “re-tested” if they received a test from the company recently.

The Office of the Attending Physician at the White House has been offering the test since November to lawmakers, staffers and reporters on Capitol Hill.

Brian Monohan, the Capitol physician, in a memo to staffers obtained by Politico acknowledged the warnings.

“We expect to have additional information in the coming days from the FDA and our expert consultants with regard to any concerns about the ongoing use of this test for the Capitol community,” he wrote in it.
