The political left is the "least tolerant" group in America, fueling a frenzy of political correctness that's creeping toward "dangerous" levels,
CNN Tonight host Don Lemon says.
In a radio commentary for Black America Web,
the audio of which was posted by Mediaite, Lemon bemoans those who are "too politically correct for … society's good," and points the finger of blame at liberals.
"After almost 25 years in the news business, you know who is the most easily offended and the least tolerant?" he asks, answering: "Liberals and progressive
— because many of them don't really want to hear anyone else's opinions but their own."
"Here's my take: Political correctness is becoming dangerous," he says, adding it's become "so much of a problem" even comedians are complaining about it.
He noted that
Jerry Seinfeld started the conversation earlier this week with his rant about the political correctness of millennials.
"Here's a tip, if you only agree with people who hold your same political affiliation or who are of your particular race, your particular gender or ethnicity, you are part of the political correctness run amok problem," Lemon says. "You are actually thwarting progress instead of advancing."
"We have to stop looking for reasons to be offended," he adds. "We have to allow people leeway to make mistakes in conversations without calling them racist, bigots, stupid, dumb, sell outs and on and on. Not everyone is going to or do they have to agree with you. In fact, it's better when people don't agree with you. That's how we learn."
Lemon tells listeners if they don't "allow room in your space for those who disagree with you" or "call co-workers or the person you hear on the radio or see on TV stupid because you disagree with them or because they don't hold your same opinion about an issue… then you might be too politically correct for your own good, for society's good."
