Dr. Anthony Fauci told Americans there was no need for them to change their lifestyles in late February even though community spread of the coronavirus already was underway.
In a Feb. 29 interview on NBC’s Today show, Dr. Fauci said, “there is no need to change anything that you are doing on a day-by-day basis.”
The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said the risk “is still low” but warned that could change at any time.
Fred Fleitz, president and CEO of the Center for Security Policy, called out Fauci in a series of tweets Monday morning for not foreseeing “how serious the coronavirus would become” in the United States.
Fleitz, a former National Security Council chief of staff, said he doesn’t believe President Donald Trump should fire Dr. Fauci, but suggests Fauci stop doing interviews with what he refers to as “fake news media.”
President Trump retweeted a post on Easter Sunday that called for the firing of Dr. Fauci.
With Fauci telling Americans to go about their every day lives early on in the pandemic, Fleitz posed the question on Twitter, So who was Trump supposed to believe at the time?
