Dr. Mehmet Oz said President Donald Trump's age and weight place him at higher risk for coronavirus-related complications.

During a Friday appearance on Fox News' "Fox & Friends," Oz said "getting the virus is one thing, and having a complication is another."

"At age 74 and being 244 pounds, which takes his BMI over 30, which is the obese category, he's got those two risk factors," Oz said of Trump, noting that in New York City "being obese was the single biggest risk factor for having big-time complications."

He said there is a "dramatic" difference between a young male and a 74-year-old catching the virus.

"74-year-olds are going to be about five times higher to have hospitalization and probably about 90 times higher mortality rate," Dr. Oz said.

He said he is "hopeful" about the president's odds of beating the virus because "he's stayed pretty active."

He said the president's diagnosis shows how contagious the virus really is because "the most protected person in the country" tested positive.

Sources say the president has mild cold-like symptoms. Oz said he was curious whether the president lost his sense of taste or smell, which are common symptoms.
