House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said on Tuesday that the chamber was working to aid jobless Americans and to remove "obstacles that stand in the way because of the overly burdensome hand of government in many instances."
"The House remains focused on trying to help those who are unemployed, on trying to help those that are trying to see a better future," the Virginia Republican said in a statement.
"We’re going to stay focused, the House is going to continue to work."
Cantor, 50, noted the "stacks of bills" that the House has passed but remained stalled by a Democratic-controlled Senate that "refuses to act."
"Jobs bills trying to affect a better healthcare future, bills trying to affect lower energy costs for working middle-class families in our country," he said.
The second-term congressman, who is seen as a possible successor to House Speaker John Boehner, noted that the House will be taking action on bills to aid veterans, expand charter schools, and provide research and development tax credits to businesses.
"This is about jobs," Cantor said of the tax credit legislation. "We’re going to stay focused on creating jobs and helping people see an America that works, and one that works for more people."
