The wife of Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer charged in the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, has filed for divorce, according to her lawyer.
Attorneys for Kellie Chauvin said Friday that she is seeking the “dissolution of her marriage” to Chauvin.
“She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death,” a statement from the law firm's Facebook page read. “Her utmost sympathy lies with his family, his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving.”
Kellie Chauvin doesn't have any children with Derek Chauvin and it's unclear how long the two have been married.
Derek Chauvin was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter in connection with Floyd’s death.
A viral video showed Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck for 8 minutes, 46 seconds, set off protests in Minneapolis and around the country.
