There are “big data” tools available that could build a worldwide management system to anticipate communicable diseases, and it could help save lives and economies, according to Newt Gingrich.
In commentary for Fox News and on his podcast, the former House Speaker points to infectious disease doctor Kamran Khan’s construction of a “digital, global early warning system” to track the spread of disease with new technology and new methods of analysis.
“If we can take the appropriate measures to counter diseases before they get really bad, then we may not have to impose the kind of lockdowns that we’re all currently enduring,” he wrote.
Gingrich argues that Khan’s model stresses the ability to detect outbreaks early, tracking methods of its dispersal, analysis of what triggers an outbreak and getting information out early — and fast.
“Dr. Khan uses big data, artificial intelligence and some of the most advanced digital tools at humanity’s disposal to make each pillar work,” Gingrich wrote. “This early warning system will not only save lives; it will also save economies.”
“Khan’s work… is not only fascinating but also essential in a post-coronavirus world,” Gingrich writes.
