The American mainstream media remains heavily biased against pro-gun groups and tend to only run stories that bash gun owners, according to John Lott, Jr., president of the Crime Prevention Research Center.
Lott said he attempted to refute a report issued by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s groups, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, claiming that 44 shootings occurred in schools and colleges nationwide since the Newtown massacre on Dec. 14, 2012.
He says those statistics are skewed because they included suicides, late-night shootings and those involving gangs.
"It's very disappointing. I started contacting media outlets that had run this stuff … [and] got absolutely no interest," Lott told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"Even though CBS [had it as] the second story on the news on Wednesday night last week when they ran it, they had no desire to go and get into whether the numbers were correct or not in there.
"One thing that's amazing is that if I put out a study, a few of my studies have gotten national attention, or when they do, I guarantee you, every time a media outlet covers it they'll quote somebody who's critical of it.''

Lott is closely watching an effort by 19 states, led by Wyoming, to support a New Jersey man's challenge to New Jersey's concealed weapons law, which is extremely restrictive.
"One thing you see when you look at, whether it's California or New Jersey, is just how it's politically connected, well-to-do people who make donations to politicians and stuff who are the ones who get the [concealed weapons] permits," he said.
"My research convinces me it's basically poor blacks who live in high-crime urban areas who benefit the most from having the option to protect themselves, and they're never the ones who get the permits.
"So the Democrats who are pushing for this stuff, it's just so ironic that they claim to be in favor of poor people. But yet it's only wealthy donors that they go and let have guns for protection."
