U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement announced it arrested more than 500 people on Thursday.
ICE said it made 538 arrests and 373 detainers were lodged, according to a social media post. Detainers are requests made to law enforcement agencies to notify ICE before releasing someone from custody and to hold that person until ICE can take custody.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump's first full day in office, ICE arrested 308 people, Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., posted on social media.
"These arrests were nationwide in every area of interest and included several murderers, rapists, sex offenders, and kidnappers," Britt wrote, noting ICE pulled off the arrests even with much of the nation in a deep freeze. "ICE also went to jails and ordered almost 300 additional aliens to be released to ICE custody rather than our nation's streets. Common sense is back."
Britt said ICE made more arrests in Trump's first full day than in any day of the Biden administration.
"Promises made, promises kept," Britt wrote.
Border czar Tom Homan echoed the 308 number in an interview.
"In the last 24 hours, ICE arrested over 308 serious criminals. Some of them were murderers. Some of them were rapists. Some of them raped a child," Homan said.
"ICE is performing excellent right now out in the field, and they're gonna continue every day."
Homan said that on Trump's first full day, the number of apprehensions at the southern border fell to 766.
