IHOP said its Twitter account was hacked on Sunday after the pancake restaurant re-tweeted a tweet critical of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

The re-tweet read: "Also good morning to everyone except Americans who don't want to accept the simple fact that Hillary Clinton had a major garbage campaign."

IHOP deleted the tweet, but Twitter users had already captured and posted screenshots of the message.

"After a thorough investigation, we have confirmed that the IHOP Twitter account was hacked this morning," spokeswoman Stephanie Peterson told the Washington Examiner.

Peterson said that IHOP has taken the "necessary steps" to make sure its social media accounts are secure.

IHOP posted an announcement about the issue on its Twitter account:

Other corporate Twitter accounts have been hacked recently.

In December 2016, a hacking group took over the Twitter account belonging to the TV and movie streaming site Netflix.

The same month, Sony's Twitter account was hacked with a hoax report claiming the death of singer Britney Spears.
