Football legend Jim Brown said he supports Colin Kaepernick's cause, but not the disrespect for the American flag and the National Anthem that he practices.
Brown spoke with ThePostGame and said Kaepernick, who advocates for the rights of blacks and gained notoriety last year by refusing to stand for the National Anthem before games, needs to get his priorities straight.
"Colin has to make up his mind whether he's truly an activist or whether he's a football player," Brown said."Football is commercial. You have owners, you have fans, and you want to honor that if you're making that kind of money.
"If you have a cause, I think you should organize it, present it in a manner where it's not only you sitting on one knee, but a lot of people that are gonna get behind each other and do something about it.
"If you're a football player, play football. If you're gonna be a real activist, use your money, use your notoriety."
Brown said the racism debate has "meaning to me," but he is an American first and would never disrespect the flag or the National Anthem.
"I'm an American, I don't desecrate my flag and my National Anthem," Brown said.
Kaepernick is currently a free agent after opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year. Some have suggested NFL teams refused to sign him because of the baggage he brings.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said earlier this month, however, teams are free to sign who they want based on their needs.
"Teams make decisions [based] on what's in the best interest of their team ... and they make those decisions individually," Goodell said.
