Rove: Movement Favors GOP in 2014 Midterm Elections

Recent polls show the movement is heading toward Republicans to capture battleground states in 2014 midterm Senate races, Republican strategist Karl Rove told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

In the Senate races in Louisiana, Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa, and Colorado, Rove said a Real Clear Politics poll showed Republican leads, adding that leads by Democratic candidates were narrowing in North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Michigan.

"These are relatively close races. Nothing is settled in these. But, the movement is all been in the Republican direction," Rove, who was deputy chief of staff to former President George W. Bush, said Monday.

Added to that were healthy leads for the GOP candidates in Senate races in Montana, West Virginia, and South Dakota, leading Rove to say there were "11 seats that are clearly in play" for control of the Senate.

The race for Senate has become heated in Kansas after Democratic candidate Chad Taylor dropped out of the race. Rove said independent candidate Greg Orman was "desperately trying to avoid looking like a Democrat" against his opponent Republican Sen. Pat Roberts.
"The last time Kansas elected a Democrat to the United States Senate was in 1932," Rove said. "There are all kinds of ideological questions that (Orman is) going to face and issue questions that are going to put him on the opposite side of Kansas voters."

While Democrats "knew they were in for a tough battle" in the 2014 elections, Rove said they "did not take it for granted, like they did in 2010" when they lost their majority in the House. He said Democrats had tried to "play around in the Republican primaries and end up with some weaker candidates," but they "didn't succeed in that."
