Kim Davis, the county clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage license to same-sex couples, is the top story in Ketucky for 2015, as voted by state members of The Associated Press, reports Liberty Counsel, which represented Davis in her legal battle.

"It has been a privilege for me, and the entire Liberty Counsel team to stand with Kim Davis and defend her religious freedom," said Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel.

"Kim never asked for the spotlight. However, her genuine love and kindness in the face of death threats and jail for merely honoring her Lord and Savior won the hearts of many people around the world," he added. "We hope that moving into the next year the principled stand Kim made will remind us of our precious right of religious freedom."

The same-sex marriage battle, including Davis' stand, was the AP's No. 2 story nationwide, after the Islamic State (ISIS) conflict.
