Former first lady Laura Bush has this advice for Columba Bush, the wife of former Gov. Jeb Bush, who is contemplating a White House run in 2016: "Get a really good speech."
"She can give a speech in English and Spanish," Laura Bush told
CNN. Her sister-in-law was born in Mexico. She and Jeb Bush have been married since 1974 and have three adult children.
"I think it's a huge advantage for her," Laura Bush said of Columba's bilingualism. "I think it can be a huge asset for the Republican Party to reach out to Hispanics in our country. She'll be great."
Bush noted that Columba is shy — "but I think she'll be a really wonderful asset to Jeb," she said, noting that she got over her own shyness once her husband, George W. Bush, entered the White House. "I got used to it."
Jeb Bush hasn't sought any advice from his brother, either.
"Believe me, when both your and father and your brother have been president you've watched from the sidelines for sure," Laura Bush told CNN. "He knows a lot."
