Rep. McCaul: Expect More Small-Scale Terror Attacks as July 4 Nears

Small-scale terror attacks inside the United States are likely to grow as America approaches the Independence Day holiday, says House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mike McCaul.

Appearing Wednesday on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," the Texas Republican said the United States has been "very fortunate" to stop the attacks on the Muhammad cartoon contest in Garland, Texas and more recent planned attacks on the Super Bowl and possibly the George Washington Bridge in New York City.

"I believe as we approach the Fourth of July, we're probably going to see more of these attacks, small-scaled, ramping up," he said.

While al-Qaida favored "very spectacular attacks," such as 9/11, McCaul said, the Islamic State (ISIS) works over Twitter to influence Americans to do their bidding.

"They have thousands of followers already in the United States and there are calls to arms from Syria to the United States to activate and attack military installations," he said, "attack police officers, and in this case, the bridge in New York. Very, very dangerous."
